Two Texas Weekends

3.27.2018

*affiliate links are used in this post

I don't know if any of you longtime blog readers have caught on to this, but I really don't like writing posts that are a collection of things. Blame it on my editor brain that I just can't seem to turn off, but I prefer each post to be About Something. It is for this reason that I find weekend recap posts to be for the most part very dull. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I'm just being honest. The other reason I don't like random posts is because I never know what to title them! And any good editor will tell you that titles are half the battle of getting anyone to actually read something (the first half of the battle being, of course, actual good writing).

4 Creative Bridal Shower Games

4.23.2014

[original background image via]

I've been named Master of Games at three bridal showers now. Apparently this is the job to give out-of-town bridesmaids, but I'm not complaining. It's fun to think of creative games to play. Since it's wedding season and such, I thought I'd share with you guys four of my favorite bridal shower games. These are pretty creative and have really been a big hit with the guests.

A Wedding Crossword Puzzle

THIS SITE (<--click) has a free online puzzle maker! You can make crossword puzzles or a word search puzzle. All you have to do is enter the clues and answers, and the site creates the puzzle for you. Then, you download it, print, and make copies for the guests.

This is a great game if you have a party where not all the guests are familiar with the wedding details or know much about the couple's love story. Some answers can be easy (the bride's name) and some can be hard (the month the bride and groom went on their first date).

Everyone will learn a little something and have fun! You can play this as a race, where the first person to complete it wins, or you can just pass out the puzzles and give everyone a couple of minutes and then go over the answers as a group.

Right Left Love Story

This game I played at a shower for soon-to-be sister-in-law. It's something I'd seen before at Pampered Chef parties I've hosted, but I never thought about doing something like this at a shower. It's called the "RIGHT LEFT" game.

I bought 2 small presents, wrapped them, and gave them to two random people around the circle of guests. Then, I read the bride and groom's love story out loud. Every time I said the word "right," the presents were passed to the right. Same for "left." Whoever ended up with the presents at the end of the game won the prizes!

Basically what I did was copy the bride and groom's love story that they wrote on their wedding website into a Word document and revised it so it used the words LEFT and RIGHT as much as possible. If you don't have a love story written out, you can definitely write one yourself.

As an example, here's the first line of the story:
This is a story about how bride's name found her MR. RIGHT.

And here's the last paragraph I wrote:

Under the twinkling lights, Mr. RIGHT bent to one knee and asked Amy to marry him. He said he knew it was the RIGHT thing to do and that he loved Amy so much he was LEFT with no choice but to marry her! He put a ring RIGHT on the ring finger on her LEFT hand and made it official. Now all that's LEFT to do is wait! And that's the story of how Amy met her MR. RIGHT.

Everyone had a lot of fun with this game, and they got to learn a bit more about the love story of the couple.

And the Bride Wore...

This one's easy and fun.

Before the shower, ask 8-10 questions (or more!) about the bride's appearance. Then, at some point, have her slip from the room without anyone noticing. Maybe while everyone's finishing up from cake or getting ready for presents. Ask everyone to fill out the questions just based on their memory. Then have the bride come back out. You'll be surprised by how much you've missed!

Love Bingo: A Bridal Shower Game

4.12.2013

On Saturday I was in Illinois for a bridal shower. I was put in charge of games, which in my experience seems to be the job given to out-of-towners. I've done games at a few showers now, and let's be honest: bridal shower games can get old quick.

So I went on the hunt for an original game, and Martha Stewart did not disappoint. This game is called Love Bingo and was a lot of fun! I got multiple compliments from guests about how creative and fun the game was.

Here's what you do:
> Create squares of 16 on card stock. Number the boxes randomly 1-16.

>Create paddles, two for each guest, using popsicle sticks and cardstock. Write the bride's name on one and the groom's name on the other.

>Ask the bride and the groom the same set of 16 questions. Then, number slips of paper 1-16 and write one question on each paper with the answer for either the bride or the groom.

So, for example: one question could be: What is your favorite color? The bride says red and the groom says green. On the paper numbered 4, you write: Favorite color is red.

Obviously this is about the bride. So, guests hold up their paddles to show what their guess is: bride or groom. If they're right, they get to put a marker on their BINGO card on number 4. The paddles make it fun because everyone can see who's guessing bride or groom. For square markers, I was going to use Smarties, but the store was out. (OUT of Smarties. Weird.) So I got a few bags of Red Hots, which I said was the "red hot" love. That got a few chuckles.

Love BINGO was a really fun way to learn about both the bride and the groom, and everyone loved it! I saved all the BINGO cards so I can play this again at another shower.

Here are two list of questions you can use to play a Love BINGO game of your own! These weren't easy. In fact, even the bride's and groom's mom got some questions wrong.

A Saint Louis Bridal Shower

6.14.2012

Last weekend I was in Saint Louis because one of my best friends had her bridal shower. I love the cute decorations her sister and sister-in-law put together. The shower was outside at a winery, so it was sunny!

I was in charge of putting two games together.

We played "Who Knows the Bride Best," because that's a game you kind of have to play at a bridal shower. I printed it out on some fun scrapbook paper and tried to find questions that I hadn't seen before.
{Font from Font for Peas}
My favorite was the BONUS question:
Answer: 68 months.
Good grief! It's about time.

The second game we played was one I hadn't seen before called "And the Bride Wore." It's a fun way to put the focus on the bride-to-be and see if people are paying attention!

I had Lauren go inside for five minutes while everyone filled out these questions based on what she was wearing that day. I glued the paper to colored card stock and then added a heart stamp in the middle.

Then she came back in, and we got to see if we were right! I was initially worried that it would be too easy. But it wasn't, and I think everyone had fun with it. Definitely a fun game to play at a bridal shower that probably not many people will have played before.

It was a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate Lauren and Nathan's upcoming wedding, which is officially a month from today!

Flashback Friday--A Bridal Shower Moment

2.18.2011

I'm flashing back to last Sunday, which was the day of my bridal shower. This is happening for two reasons:

1. I wanted to finally post an actual picture from the shower.
2. This picture is hilarious.

Cori and Lauren were sitting to my left, using the ribbons off my presents to make the fake bouquet I'll use at the wedding rehearsal. I asked them to turn toward me to take a picture, and this happened:

Cori made me promise that I wouldn't show this to anyone, but...well, I don't care.

However, I'll try to make it up to her by also showing you this picture of her being perfectly normal.

Please don't hate me, Cori. I love you.
