Awkward + Awesome [volume 3]

2.06.2014

This is also known as the post where Jordan and Amanda fail at life and you get to laugh at us while we laugh at ourselves. You guys, it's concerning to me how easy it is to find awkward things to write about.

Let's get started.

Awkward: realizing you're wearing two scarves. There are no words, only this picture:
There's nothing quite like taking off your scarf and realizing there's another scarf underneath.

Awkward: going to the bathroom at the end of the work day and realizing your underwear is inside out. I don't know.

Awkward: changing into your pajamas and realizing you were wearing your shirt inside out AND backwards all day. It was a tagless tee, so I'm not that stupid.
But I'm a little stupid.
(Note: this is a different day than the inside out underwear. I don't know if that makes it better or worse. Then again... can it really be better?)

Awkward: your husband is brushing his teeth, and all of the sudden from the bathroom you hear, "Hey! I have pot pie in my beard."

Then you cry a little bit inside.

Then you tell him that if he can't keep himself under control, he should think about shaving his beard.

And the MOST awkward of all that has happened recently...

Let's just say it ended with this:

And let's also say that no one was seriously injured. You should also know that Jordan 100% supports the publishing of this story.

I really wish I could do this story justice in prose, because it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. However, you probably had to be there to understand just how ridiculous this was.

Two weeks ago, Jordan and I were heading out to dinner because we had a Chili's gift card burning a hole in our pocket. As we walked around the corner of our building, we started racing each other toward the car (because we're five years old). That's when Jordan did a football spin move (because he's five years old).

He misjudged the diameter of his spin, ran into a tree, and fell flat on his back.

When I first saw him on the ground, I thought he was joking. I mean, who runs into a tree and falls down? But then he looked at me, and I saw his face was bleeding! I was concerned initially, of course, and we ran back upstairs to survey the damage. At this point I was doing a weird half laugh half sob. Because it was funny and ridiculous, but he was also bleeding so it was scary.

The lighting is terrible in our bathroom, so I don't know if you can really see all the damage this branch did to his face, so I made a diagram, because apparently I have nothing better to do with my life.

It could have been really bad. As in, he could have literally poked his eye out. His eye was cut both below and above his actual eyeball, and he had a bump on his head, so it's a blessing he didn't hurt himself. HOWEVER, even as I got him a wet washcloth, and he sat down on the couch, neither of us could stop laughing.

We didn't go to dinner, because he was too embarrassed to go outside. He kept saying, "I hope no one saw me!" He even wanted to stay at home and not go to work the next day. It looked like this for a week:

And everyone was like, "WHAT HAPPENED?!"
So he made up a lot of stories like how he was sailing on the lake and the mast hit him in the face or how he got cut in a knife fight defending my honor. But ultimately he had to tell the truth and admit that he ran into a tree, which I personally think is the best story of all.

To be fair, this "tree" was really a death trap waiting to happen. They trimmed some of the mini trees in our complex a few months ago. This is what he ran into:

But still.
Scary horror movie tree or not, who runs into a tree???
My husband, that's who.

And not that this is awkward or awesome, but we both caught the stomach bug last week one after the other. It was kind of like this.

If we're keeping score, these past few weeks it's been like:

Life: 8764932 / Bumgarners: 0

At least we're keeping it awkward. I mean really, if you can't laugh at yourself, what's the point?

High Five For Friday: The Beard Edition

4.19.2013

Newsflash: when you don't have a full-time job, you don't get as excited about Fridays as the rest of the population. Still, a few things happened lately that deserve a high five despite the difficult news stories that broke throughout the week.

[Winter in Oklahoma is taking one final stance against spring]
1.
Someone found my blog by Googling "my man won't shave his beard." There are no words for how happy this makes me.

To whomever you are, I say: Welcome, friend.
(Read this post if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Spoiler alert: it's called "When Your Man Won't Shave His Beard")

2.
Yesterday, this conversation happened:

Me: You have some food sticking to your beard.
*Jordan puts his hand to his beard.*
Me: No, I mean your top beard.
Jordan: You mean my mustache?

You mean that's not what I said? Indeed. Carry on, then.

3.
This week I cooked FOUR meals that I found on Pinterest from my Entrees board. Four. All were easy to put together and quite delightful. I might have hurt my arm from patting myself on the back so much.

-Buttermilk Roast Chicken
-Chicken Enchilada Stack
-Baked Spaghetti Pie
-Oven Toasted Ravioli

4.
One day earlier this week I saw a Mini Cooper painted top to bottom with the British flag. I was like, yes, we get it. I've seen "The Italian Job," thankyouverymuch.

5.
Boston.
I am obviously not going to high five about the Boston tragedy. I offered my thoughts on that horribleness in this post. However, I will high five my local Oklahoma City marathon, which is coming up in just over 1 week! This will be my first marathon, and I am even more excited to run in it after the support shown from runners across the country.

If you don't know, the OKC race is a memorial to remember and honor the 168 people who died in the 1995 OKC bombing. This year, there will be approximately 24,000 participants, and we are going to be wearing red socks during the race (if I can find some) as a tribute to Boston. They have also decided to offer free entry for any Boston runner who was unable to finish their marathon. The Boston runners can start at the beginning of the OKC marathon or start at the place they left off in Boston. It gives me shivers just thinking about it. Awesome stuff.

Speaking of, tomorrow is my LAST long run before my marathon. Someone pinch me.

When Your Man Won't Shave His Beard

4.04.2013

When your your man won't shave his beard...
you drug him and then shave it off secretly in the middle of the night.

Kidding.
But seriously.
Look at this thing.
My grizzly mountain man.

Yesterday, we were walking up the stairs to our apartment, and the people below us (who, by the way, think Jordan's name is Justin) said, "Hey! I didn't even recognize you with all that hair on your face!" And Jordan was like, "Yeah, I've been growing it out." Then our neighbor said, "It's big!" And I was like, "Yeah! You tell him!" And then I was like, Um, did they think I was coming home with some other guy? Awkward....

At first, I didn't notice the beard because I see it every day. It's like watching someone get taller. Then one day it's large and in charge, and I'm punching him in the middle of the night because I accidentally feel his face and think he's a killer. Okay maybe not a killer but definitely Paul Bunyon or something.

So I'm like, "Either I go, or the beard goes."

And he chooses the beard because something about how I promised I wouldn't leave him "till death do us part." So of course then there's nothing left to do but let him know when he gets food stuck in it. Which he does, a lot.

There's nothing I love better than saying, "Honey, you have some rice stuck in your beard." To which he replies, "I'm saving it for later."

Awesome.

I've always said that he can do what he wants with his hair, though. I mean, I'm not going to be one of THOSE wives. So I'm patiently waiting it out, because this can't go on forever.

The other day I asked him how long he was planing on keeping the beard.

Jordan: I'm trying to see how long I can grow it out before it starts to annoy me.
Me: Well, when do you think that will be?
*Crosses fingers that he'll say tomorrow*
Jordan: Actually, I think I already got past that point. It was really annoying me last week, and now it's not. I think I'm over it.
Me: Really.
Jordan: Yeah, I think I'm going to see if I can grow it out for a whole year.
Me: When did you start growing it out?
*Thinking he probably started last spring and the year is almost up*
Jordan: December.

It's April. Awesome again.

His ultimate goal is to grow his mustache long enough to be able to shape it using mustache wax. Greetings, Captain Hook.

I told him he'd be better off growing a Hitler mustache like MJ.
I don't care who you care, MJ is THE MAN. Seriously, he's in his 50s and still doing underwear commercials. #baller (um... pun not intended?)

Jordan didn't want to be like Mike, though, so basically I'm back to the idea of drugging him and shaving off his beard myself.
Because I CAN'T SEE HIS DIMPLES.

I married him because of his dimples. Fact.

DIMPLES.
Okay, sorry. I'm done.

I guess next December I'll be telling Justin,

Because when it's your wife or your beard, he's going to choose the beard.
That's exactly what I get for marrying an Oklahoma boy. My mom warned me this would happen.

Pray for me.
